Un-Owned Data? Interoperable EU borders and transitioning rights post-COVID-19

30th November 2021 @ 10:00 am – 12:30 pm Europe/Rome Timezone
Online / Zoom
Department of Law / RSCAS / MPC / CJC

The workshop explores under which legal and technical conditions the EU architecture of interoperability in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice has been established.

The use of interoperable information systems for migration, borders and visa raises a two-fold concern: on the one hand, it affects the rights of individuals, mainly third-country nationals, whose data are accessed and shared through interoperable components; on the other hand, it regards the conditions of data sharing that often remain under the power and discretion of national competent authorities. Elaborating on these aspects, the workshop reflects upon the transformations as well as the transitioning character of individual rights. They depend very much on the changing and transitioning character of personal data once it is shared by EU interoperable information systems.
