Juan A. Mayoral is a doctor member candidate in the Juan March Institute and PhD researcher at the European University Institute in Florence, where he is working on his doctoral research about the institutional and political factors that influence the application of European law by national courts under the supervision of Adrienne Héritier. Currently, he holds a BA in Law (2004), Philosophy (2005), and Political Science (2006) and he obtained the Diploma of specialization in Political Science and Constitutional Law taught by the Center for Political and Constitutional Studies in 2006. That same year, he was awarded the grant from the Juan March Institute of Study and Research for master and doctoral studies at the Centre of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (2006). In 2009 he obtained a MA in Democracy and Governance in the Autonomous University of Madrid.
During his PhD research he has been a visiting fellow researcher at the Institute of Public Goods and Policies-CSIC in Madrid (Spain), the Centre d’Études Européennes – Science Po in Paris (France) and the European Centre of National in Warsaw (Poland).
His research interests lie in the fields of EU Judicial Politics, EU institutions and legal integration, the role of courts in authoritarian regimes, public opinion and justice, among others. He is particularly interested in the application of surveys and econometric techniques for the analysis of judges’ attitudes and behaviour.
